And CFC too!

I’m also working on the program (if indeed there will be one) for the Christian Friends Conference annual west coast gathering.

On Thursday our Program Committee of three had a meeting in San Francisco (thanks, AFSC, for letting us use the space), and we had a couple of ideas we liked well enough to explore further. One of them was to have a series of three speakers who’d be likely to give rather different answers to the question

What must take place in order for there to be a renewal of Christian Quakerism?

So, as I order and read Brian Drayton’s book, I’m also thinking about possibilities for CFC for this August.

How much advance notice would you need for childcare for the weekend????

Excellent question. Unfortunately, we will likely not like some of the more logical answers.

Persecution of Quakers. Hardship for Quakers. Both of these would separate the secular from the Christian Friends. If Quakers continue to define yourself by their political positons rather than their unwavering devotion to Christ, a resurgence will not happen.

Another separation, or simply growth in the number of and membership in conservative meetings.

Evangelism. I have found that re-introducing Christ to liberal Quaker meetings is a hard way to go. With many meetings consisting of people who have been wronged by those who call themselves Christian, much work would be necessary to reclaim the scriptures and Christ in teh eyes of some.

I am taking the direction of pursuing a conservative meeting, and welcome any and all prayers.
